Target Species

The four main target species that we intend to plant are Spotted Gum, Yellow Stringybark, Southern Mahogany and Sugar Gum.

Timber from these trees is durable against decay and termites. These trees are hard, attractive and versatile. They yield the highest royalties as sawlogs and can be used for a range of speciality end uses that demand premium. These include high value items like power poles, bridge and wharf pilings through to specialist uses in building such as decking and cladding screenboards. All these species grow well in Gippsland and the value of logs at harvesting will be at a premium because of the projected short supply of this durable timber that is already in evidence.
